Defensive spells

Holy armour
Skill Used: Faith.Spells.Defensive.Self
Usage: cast holy armour "target"or dispel armour
GP Cost: 75
Description: This prayer will call upon Severan's aid in the form of a shimmering field of power that will strenghten your armour. The spell may not be cast on others. It is merely a spell that will increase your armor class, thus improving your durability in combat. It will gradually wear off with time (the duration depends on your skill) and you will need to cast it again. This spell has recently taken this form after being nothing but a weak version of the main defensive spell of the paladins, the Shield of Faith (SoF). It now can be stacked with SoF.

Shield of faith
Skill Used: Faith.Spells.Defensive.Self or Faith.Spells.Defensive.Target
Usage: cast shield of faith "target" or dispel shield
GP Cost: 350
Minimum level: 75 in Faith.Spells.Defensive
Description: This is the main defensive spell of the Paladins. It can be cast upon any player with good alignment or even neutral players as long as they are below 25 level. It is very useful for gathering experience with characters that do not have layered defenses and/or get hit a lot so you will be very oftenly asked to assist those players with the blessing of your shield.

The shield works by simply absorbing a considerable amount of damage inflicted upon the recipient. When your fa.s.d.s skills goes high enough, it will reach its maximum absorbing ability which is 75%. You can have an idea of how good your shield is by checking the message it gives when you are hit. The rating of the damage it absorbs will vary from small or good reaching gradually huge and enormous. Enormous is the final and highest rating for your shield's absorbance.

The shield will not wear off with time but with the damage it absorbs. There is a certain total amount of damage it can absorb and when it reaches it, it will leave you defensless. Fortunately, if you are using ansi color for mudding you will be able to get an idea of how close your shield is to wear off by the color of the message it gives when absorbing damage. This will vary from blue (a new shield) to green, yellow and finally red right before wearing off completely. You will be given a message "Your shield of faith is weakening" before it reaches the red level. Your shield will absorb 75% of the damage at all times, however close to leaving you it is.

When fighting good aligned NPCs or players, the absorbing ability of the Shield of Faith is merely 55%. It will protect you by absorbing 75% of the damage inflicted upon you only when you fight evil aligned targets.

Crusade
Skill Used:Faith.Spells.Defensive.Self
Usage: cast crusade "target"
GP Cost: 450
Minimum level: 75 in Faith.Spells.Defensive
Description: This spell calls upon Severan to grant you holy sanction. While under the influence of Crusade you will exude a holy aura for all to see. This aura grants you several benifits including increased durability, strength, enhanced wisdom and a resistance to mundane attacks. The requirements Severan imposes for this blessing are very strict and at no time may you ask for anothers actions to be sanctioned by your god. The stat bonus it offers to a paladin with maximum fa.s.d.s is +2 on strength, +4 on constitution and +1 on wisdom. Its duration depends on your wisdom and fa.s.d.s skill. It cannot be cast upon others.

You must have a holy symbol in your inventory to be able to cast this spell. In additition, you will not be able to cast it unless your alignment is in the upper parts of 'Beneficient' or higher.

Aura of Faith
Skill Used: Faith.Spells.Defensive.Self or Faith.Spells.Defensive.Target
Usage: cast aura of faith "target"
GP Cost: 300
Minimum level: 150 in Faith.Spells.Defensive

The spell will decrease the efficiency of spells using the "death type" of magic on their targets. One of them is the Occultist spell known as Power Word Die (PWD). By using the resist death spell, you will have less chances of dying instantly because of PWD.

By going on a quest, you can be granted with the power to resist some other types of damage. Those types vary from one guild to another. By completing the 'resist quest' paladins can cast resist against poison and charm. Poison attacks are mainly used by clerics whereas charm attacks usually come from occultists. More about the the resist quest you will be able to find on the "quest page".

Punishment of Severan
Skill Used: Faith.Spells.Misc.Target
Usage: cast punishment of severan "target"
GP Cost: 750
Minimum level: 100 in Faith.Spells.Misc
Description: This spell will call upon Severan to punish a disciple of evil by reducing your enemy's stat points. The power of this spell is dependent on your and your foe's alignments. This spell cannot be cast upon neutral or good aligned characters. The more evil the target is, the more good you are, the more powerful the spell becomes.

The curse is able to reduce your target's stats by a maximum -5. It will not kill your opponent but at least it will have him running to find a priest to restore his stats to normal. The reduction of the target's stats makes him more vulnerable to the attacks that may follow, making this spell a very useful asset in player killing situations. Higher wisdom will make the spell more powerful too. It has a high gp cost, being over the 50% of the gps most maxed paladins have. Therefore you will have to use potions in your alias if you want to add attacks after it.

Pain of Severan
Skill Used: Faith.Spells.Offensive.Target

GP Cost: 250

With an offensive.target skill high enough, this spell can inflict a decent amount of damage to the target and will do that with 4 or 5 attacks of magic or fire. The higher your skill in offensive.target is, the more often you will get the maximum number of attacks with it, and the more often you will inflict maximum damage with it.
